Mumbai. The Indian team realized its dream of winning the T20 World Cup again after 2007. The captaincy was in the hands of Rohit Sharma, but he gave the credit of this victory to three people who were planning outside the field. Captain Rohit Sharma said that the planning of former head coach Rahul Dravid, selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar and BCCI secretary Jai Shah worked in winning the World Cup. All three supported him in his effort to get the best performance from the players without worrying about the results. The result was that India won the T20 World Cup under his leadership.
Under Rohit’s leadership, India won the ICC T20 World Cup in June by defeating South Africa in the final. This was India’s second T20 World Cup title after 2007 and Rohit also ended his career in the shortest format with that victory in Barbados. Rohit said after being named the best male international cricketer of the year at the ‘CEAT Cricket Rating Awards’, “It was my dream to change this team and not worry too much about statistics, results, to ensure that we create an environment where people can go to the field and play freely without thinking too much.
He said, “This was what was needed. I got a lot of help from my three pillars which are actually Jay Shah, Rahul Dravid (and) chairman of the selection committee Ajit Agarkar. What I did was very important for me. Of course, the players who came at different times and helped the team achieve what we achieved.”
