New Delhi. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan has praised the government’s efforts to control the COVID-19 epidemic. India has managed to do better in terms of various parameters related to COVID-19. We have consistently maintained the lowest mortality rate and highest recovery rate across the world.
Referring to the contribution of scientists, the Health Minister said that our scientists have done a great job and they worked 24 hours a day to give us two vaccines which were made in India and have been approved for emergency use in the country.
The world’s largest vaccination campaign is underway in India and is progressing at a fast pace and more than one crore doses have been given so far. He also said that India has often been called the pharmacy of the world. But now it is emerging as a major center for manufacturing of Covid-19 vaccine in the world.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that while paying full attention to the management of COVID-19, our government did not let any stone unturned in ensuring other essential health services. Various policy interventions and the use of technology like tele-medicine service played a major role in this regard. Our e-Sanjeevani platform recorded 10 lakh doctor-patient consultations in a short period.
The Union Minister said that through far-reaching programmes like Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana, we are now making positive changes in the policies of our health system. New thinking is taking shape through the National Medical Commission, Nursing Commission Bill and the National Commission for Allied Health Professionals Bill.
He said that ambitious plans have been made to expand medical colleges in India and restructure the health infrastructure. We are constantly working to make the system of providing health services in the country extremely dynamic.
The Union Minister addressed the Global Indian Physicians Congress organised by the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) through video conference.
