Congress in a tussle over Karnataka quota! How did Kharge convince Rahul Gandhi, will the plan be shelved?

Report- Pallavi Ghosh

Bengaluru: There is a hue and cry in Karnataka over the ‘Kannada’ quota. Meanwhile, the first consequence of the ‘Kannada’ quota controversy is that the Congress may hesitate to talk about reservation in the upcoming elections, especially in Haryana and Maharashtra. But the question is, where will Rahul Gandhi be then, who is openly advocating reservation, especially in the private sector?

But why is it that within 24 hours of sharing the details of the quota bill, the Karnataka government did a U-turn? This was because they feared that it could lead to an exodus or anger in the industrial belt. For example, Bengaluru is known to be a cluster of people from different states who use their expertise to ensure that the city remains on top.

There is a lot of controversy going on in Karnataka
During the discussions on the bill in Karnataka, the BJP and other opponents of the Congress left no stone unturned to take advantage of the situation. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s son and minister Nara Lokesh invited businessmen to his state. Congress leader Priyank Kharge jumped in to silence him, but the controversy also exposed the Kharge family’s discomfort with the Siddaramaiah government’s decision.

The biggest challenge, however, was convincing Rahul Gandhi. A feat only Mallikarjun Kharge could achieve. The Congress president made it clear that with Andhra Pradesh witnessing a fierce competition in the IT sector, Karnataka cannot afford reservations under the current circumstances. Kharge eventually prevailed over Gandhi, but perhaps not for long. As the Rahul Gandhi committee sits to decide on the upcoming state elections and the quota issue, he will surely hope to find a middle ground, which may be difficult to find.

For now, Rahul Gandhi has asked the state government to give some assurances to the Kannadigas after talking to the corporates so that all stakeholders are happy. Meanwhile, the party will carry forward Rahul Gandhi’s agenda wisely for the upcoming state elections.
