Poonch/Jammu. There was a stir in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district after a grenade was found on the roof of a government building. The grenade spread panic among the people living in the government quarters, although it was later defused. Officials said on Friday that some children found the grenade while playing on the roof of a government housing building near Raja Sukhdev District Hospital on Thursday evening. The police was immediately informed about it.
Officials said a police team has cordoned off the area to ensure the safety of residents and hospital staff. Police said bomb disposal experts were called in to defuse the grenade and an investigation into the matter has been launched. Police suspect that someone threw the grenade and fled from there, although the grenade did not explode.
Gulfam, a resident of the quarter, told reporters here, “My children were repeatedly saying that there was something on the roof and when I went there, I saw something lying in the corner. My younger son told me that he thought it was some suspicious object.” The woman said, “I thought it belonged to the electricity department and called them as they were working here during the day. When they checked, they asked me to inform the security guard as the object was not theirs.”
The woman said that the security personnel said that it was a bomb and they would have to inform the police about it. She said that the Deputy Superintendent of Police arrived here with a team and within half an hour the grenade was removed from there. The police said that it has asked people to remain alert and immediately inform the security agencies about any suspicious activity.
