Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record continues to be broken, now it’s coach Gautam Gambhir’s turn, 16 year old record destroyed


New Delhi. Indian team’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to shine on foreign soil as well. After being out cheaply in the first innings of the Perth Test, he made a strong comeback in the second innings and returned not out on the second day after playing an innings of 90 runs. There was pressure on this young player to perform and he made a great start, living up to the expectations. Yashasvi registered his name in history and broke Gautam Gambhir’s 16 year old record. Now he has become the Indian left-handed batsman who has scored the most runs in Test cricket in a year.

Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir had held this record in his name for 16 years. In 2008, Gambhir scored 1134 runs in 8 test matches and became the fifth highest run scorer of the year. Gambhir batted at an average of 70.87 and scored 3 centuries and 6 half-centuries. The performance of Indian batsmen in 2008 was excellent and apart from Gambhir, Virender Sehwag (second position with 1462 runs), VVS Laxman (sixth position with 1086 runs) and Sachin Tendulkar (ninth position with 1063 runs) were also among the top batsmen in the year. Was included in the list of top 10 batsmen.

Yashasvi is second in the list of batsmen who have scored the most Test runs in this year i.e. 2024 with 1209 runs. At first place in this list is Joe Root who has scored 1338 runs in 14 matches. England will play a three-match Test series against New Zealand from 28 November to 18 December. India will play three more Test matches against Australia after Perth in 2024.
