Jobs In Canada: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has taken a big decision before the elections. Trudeau has announced to reduce the number of foreigners doing temporary jobs in Canada. Trudeau has reversed his decision taken in the year 2022. The government is struggling to reduce the number of temporary employees. Let us tell you that this decision will have a direct impact on the Indian youth working there. A large number of Indian students work there to earn their living.
The Temporary Foreign Worker Program brings non-Canadians to the country to work on a short-term basis. To meet the labour shortage in Canada, it has grown dramatically and has been criticised for driving down wages and leaving Canadian workers vulnerable to abuse.

PM Justin Trudeau said his cabinet is also considering cuts to permanent resident streams. He is trailing in the prime ministerial race ahead of next year’s election as a growing share of Canadians say Canada is bringing in too many immigrants. “Canada remains a place that is positive in its support for immigration. It is also responsible for ensuring that there are pathways to success for everyone who comes to Canada,” he said on Monday.
Why did Canada back off?
Election experts say that this decision of Justin Trudeau will increase unemployment among immigrants and youth. According to the report, the number of Indians in Canada is expected to reach 20 lakhs by the end of August 2024. In the year 2022, 118,095 Indians have become permanent residents in Canada. At the same time, 59,503 people became Canadian citizens. In the first quarter of 2024, Canada admitted 37,915 new Indian permanent residents, which is 8,175 less than the first quarter of 2023. Canada wants this number to be reduced, so it is taking such decisions.
The Trudeau government has promised to take further steps to reduce the temporary resident population to 5% of Canada’s total population in three years, up from 6.8% in April. The changes announced Monday would eliminate low-wage temporary foreign workers in communities with 6% unemployment or higher, cap the share of low-wage temporary foreign workers in employers’ workforces at 10% and reduce the duration of low-wage temporary foreign worker permits from two years to one.
