Car Knowledge: When the old tyres of your vehicle got worn out, you must have got new tyres installed. But have you ever noticed why there are small rubber thorn-like things on the new tyres? You must have seen such thorns on the new tyres kept in the shop. These rubber thorns on the new tyres are also called spikes, tyre nibs, gate marks or nippers. Let us know what is their function on the tyre and why are they made. So let us know the answer to this question.
Actually, rubber thorns on tyres are formed automatically during manufacturing. To make tyres, liquid rubber is poured into the tyre mould. Air pressure is used so that the rubber spreads well in all corners. The use of heat and air creates air bubbles between the rubber and the mould, which can lead to deterioration in the quality of the tyre. In such a situation, air is removed using pressure.
Rubber forks are made using air pressure
Due to air pressure, the air in the rubber starts coming out from small holes. In this process, some amount of rubber also comes out from these holes, which cools down and takes the shape of a thorn. Even after taking the tire out of the mold, these small rubber thorns remain attached to the tire. The company does not remove them. This shows that the tire is new and has not been used.
Can tyre thorns be removed?
Actually, there is no need for these thorns on the tyre, but there is no benefit in removing them. These thorns do not affect the performance of the vehicle. After the vehicle is driven for a few days, these thorns wear out and break on their own.
