The injured are being treated at AIIMS Rishikesh. Some have serious head injuries, while others have severe injuries to their arms and legs due to falling into the river. Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited AIIMS Rishikesh on Saturday to check on those injured in Rudraprayag Accident and admitted for treatment. The Chief Minister also gathered information from the doctors at AIIMS about the treatment of the injured and gave instructions for their better care.
In Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, a mini-bus on its way on the Badrinath National Highway met with an accident before reaching its destination and fell about 660 feet into the Alaknanda River.
As of writing this report, 14 people have died in this tragic accident, and the injured are being airlifted to hospitals for treatment. Some sources say that the accident occurred because the driver dozed off. However, the actual cause of the accident is under investigation.
Was the driver sleepy?
It is said that most of the 26 passengers aboard were asleep. The group of 26 passengers had departed from New Delhi for trekking in Chopta-Tungnath-Chandrashila. It is believed that the driver fell asleep at the wheel, and the accident occurred around 11:30 AM.
It has been found that this mini-bus was not part of the Char Dham pilgrimage; therefore, it did not have a trip card, nor were the passengers registered. This process is mandatory for vehicles and passengers going on the Char Dham pilgrimage. The vehicle was stopped at Brahmapuri for registration checking, but since they were going to Tungnath, they were allowed to pass through the checkpoint.
