Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandana starrer film Chhawa is surrounded by controversies. After the trailer release, former Rajya Sabha MP Sambhaji Raje expressed displeasure at showing the character of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj dancing. Now Maharashtra Minister Uday Samanta has warned the film’s makers that if any objectionable scene is kept in the film, he will not allow it to be released. Meanwhile, the film’s director Laxman Utekar has met MNS Chief Raj Thackeray and assured that he will remove the controversial scenes from the film. After this, the film will be released on the scheduled date on February 14.
Director Laxman Utekar meets Raj Thackeray Amidst controversies, the director of the film Chhawa, Laxman Utekar, has met MNS Chief Raj Thackeray. The picture of this meeting has also surfaced. After the meeting, Laxman Utekar told the media, I met Raj Thackeray. He guided me very well. We have been making this film for the last 4 years. We have worked hard to make it. Our aim is not to hurt anyone’s feeling. If someone’s sentiments are hurting from a scene, then we will cut that scene from the film.
Offensive scenes will be removed from the film, will be released only on February 14 MNS leader Amay Khopkar has told in a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar that Raj Thackeray and Laxman Utekar met about the objectionable scene of the film Chhawa. Laxman Utekar has assured during the meeting that he will remove the scene from the film, in which Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is shown dancing. After this change, the film will be released only on 14 February.
Maharashtra minister had said, the image will not be tolerated if Dhumil Maharashtra Minister Uday Samanta recently posted from his X platform and wrote-
It is a matter of pleasure that such a film has been made, which is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who protects religion and freedom. This effort was necessary to convince the history of Chhatrapati to the world. But many people have presented their opinion and said that the film has some objectionable scenes. We believe that this film should not be released without showing experts and knowledgeable people. Whoever damages the image of Chhatrapati Maharaj will not be tolerated.
He has further written-
We believe that the producer and director of the film should remove any objectionable scene by taking Imidiet action. The decision ahead will be taken after watching the film, otherwise the film will not be allowed to be released.
Ashutosh Rana said- will show the film, no one will object In the film Chhava, Ashutosh Rana has played the role of Sarasenapati Hambirrao Mohite. On this controversy, he said in a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar that he has no objection to showing the film and any dispute can be resolved through negotiation. Ashutosh Rana said-
The demand of the people is raising, I am confident that the filmmakers will fulfill it. The film is releasing on 14 February, which will be released by showing them. Laxman (Director) has made the film with great research and applying wisdom. If people of his family are trying to watch the film, then we have full faith. Films are not a matter of controversy, but the subject of dialogue. Any dispute can be resolved by dialogue. Because the purpose of films or any artwork is to establish dialogue. I don’t think anyone will object.
On the experience of joining the film, Ashutosh Rana said, “Being a part of a film based on any such historical character is a matter of great pleasure for any actor in itself.”
Amid controversy, BJP MP Udayanraje Bhonsle spoke to Laxman Utekar, director of the film Chhava and said that he should remove all objectionable scenes from the film. In response, the director has sought 4-5 days time and also appealed to him to watch the film. He also said that if people will object to after showing the film, then they are ready to make changes in the film.
The film’s screening will be held on January 29 for historians
The film’s makers have now decided to hold a special screening of the film for historians and Yuvraj Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati. All will give their opinion by watching the film on 29 January.

The film is an adoptation of writer Shivaji Sawant’s novel Chhava. The film is directed by Laxman Utekar, while it is produced by Madock Film and Dinesh Vision. Apart from Vicky and Rashmika, the film also stars Akshaye Khanna, Divya Dutta, Ashutosh Rana, Diana Penty in important roles. The film will be released on 14 February.
