Vicky Kaushal is a well-known actor in the industry today. He created his own identity with films like Masaan, Sam Bahadur. Recently, actor’s father and stunt director Sham Kaushal talked about Vicky Kaushal’s days of struggle. He said that Vicky was rejected many times in auditions and he was also embarrassed.
During a conversation with Friday Talkies, Sham Kaushal said, ‘I always advised both my sons to focus on studies and sent them to general schools, because I felt that this would inculcate discipline and hard work in them. But when both of them decided to enter the film industry, I found it a bit surprising.
The actor’s father said, ‘I could not refuse both of them, because I was also earning from the same industry. I thought that people would serve tea to both of them in my honour, but no one would invest crores of rupees in a film with them. Still, because I also come from a village and have worked hard. I believed that if they work hard and work honestly, they will never be rejected.
Sham Kaushal said, ‘As an action director, I never asked anyone to give him work. Sometimes people would refuse to take Vicky’s audition and say why should Vicky be auditioned? But I always taught my sons that whatever insult they face. Make that your strength, because if you don’t tolerate insults, you can’t really move forward.
Vicky Kaushal’s father further said, ‘Vicky had to face a lot of rejection in the beginning of his career. Not only this, the roles he was getting were also small. People used to tell him not to do this. When he talked to me about all this, I always told him only one thing that whatever work you get, you should not leave it. I told him to listen to his heart. However, after working hard for about 4-5 years, Vicky got his first big opportunity.
Vicky Kaushal made his Bollywood debut in 2015 with the film Masaan directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. Rajkumar Rao was first cast in the film, however, after his refusal, the film went to Vicky. Both Vicky and film director Neeraj were assistant directors on Gangs of Wasseypur where they became friends.
