Donald Trump, who was till now opposing H-1B visa in America, has reversed course. Trump said on Saturday that he supports it. Trump told the New York Times that I have always been in support of this visa.
Trump said-
I believe in the H-1B visa. There are many H-1B visa people in my companies too. I have used it many times and it is a great program.
Earlier, Elon Musk made a post on X late Friday night in which he vowed to go to war in support of H-1B visas for foreign workers. At the same time, Trump’s latest statement is completely opposite to the statement given during his election campaign in November this year. During the election campaign, Trump had talked about expelling illegal immigrants from the country and making the visa policy stricter.
Earlier in 2020, Trump had suspended H-1B and L-1 visas. Trump also opposed H-1B visas in the 2016 election campaign. Then he said that this visa program is very bad for workers and we should end it soon.
During his election campaign in November this year, Trump had talked about making visa rules stricter.
What is H-1B visa?
H-1B is a non-immigrant visa that allows American companies to hire foreign professionals for positions requiring specialized technical skills. Through this visa, companies in the technology sector recruit thousands of workers from countries like India and China every year.
H-1B visa is usually issued to those people who are associated with a particular profession (such as IT professionals, architecture, health professionals, etc.). Only those professionals who are offered a job can get this visa. It completely depends on the employer. That means, if the employer fires you and another employer does not offer you, the visa will expire.
Trump supporters’ opinions on visa are also divided among themselves
The opinion of Trump supporters regarding H-1B visa is also divided among themselves. Trump supporters like Laura Loomer, Matt Gaetz and Ann Coulter are openly opposing this visa. These people say that through H-1B visa, foreigners will get jobs in America and American people will lose their jobs.
On the other hand, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who will soon handle the Department of Government Efficiency (DoGE) in the Trump government, have supported the H-1B visa. They say that to strengthen America economically, the world’s top people should be hired.
