Top Cars In May 2024: Swift overtook Punch, Nexon also suffered a major setback, yet this car maker remains at number three

New Delhi. The car sales figures for May 2024 have been revealed. This time the sales figures for Tata Motors are a bit disappointing. This is because the company’s two star performer cars have failed in sales. The sales of both the company’s cars have declined, but the sales of the second car have decreased so much that this car, which was in the top-5, has also gone out of the top-10 list.

If we look at the sales figures, in May 2024, Maruti Swift has overtaken the number-1 selling car Tata Punch. Although there is not much difference in the sales of both the cars, Swift seems to be returning to its old form with its new avatar. Last month, Maruti Swift became the best-selling car with 19,393 units, while Punch sold 18,949 units. However, Punch registered a growth rate of 70% in May this year as compared to last year.

Nexon lost to this car
On the other hand, Tata’s second star performer car i.e. Nexon sold 11,457 units. This is less than the sales of Nexon in the previous months. Nexon sold 14,395 units in February this year, 14,058 units in March and 11,168 units in April. Maruti Suzuki Ford has overtaken Nexon and sold 12,681 units in May. The facelift model of Tata Nexon was introduced earlier this year.

Although the sales of Tata Motors’ two best-selling cars have declined, the company is still the third largest carmaker after Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. In May 2024, Maruti, Hyundai and Tata Motors sold 1,44,002 units, 49,151 units and 46,700 units of cars respectively.

What is special in the new Maruti Swift?
The new generation Maruti Swift has been launched with a new avatar at an ex-showroom price of Rs 6.49 lakh. At the same time, the price of its top variant goes up to Rs 9.65 lakh (ex-showroom). Swift has a 1.2 liter Z-series mild hybrid engine. About which the company claims that it is more fuel efficient than before. This engine generates 82hp of power and 108 Nm of torque. The engine is equipped with manual gearbox as well as CVT transmission.

In the new Swift, the company has taken full care of the safety of the customers. It has been provided with 6 airbags, 3-point seatbelts with seatbelt reminder on all seats, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Hold Assist and many other features as standard.
