New Delhi. Every batsman has the desire to score a century in international cricket. When getting very close to the century, most of the batsmen do not like to take risks and try to touch the 100-run mark by taking a single or double. On the contrary, there are some batsmen who want to reach the century and complete it as soon as possible and for this they do not shy away from even hitting sky-high shots. The most prominent name in this is that of India’s explosive opener Virender Sehwag. When Sehwag scored a triple century against Pakistan in Multan, he completed the figures of 100 runs, 200 runs and 300 runs only by hitting a six. Even in ODIs, he has completed his century by hitting a six on some occasions.
Apart from this achievement of Sehwag, there are three Indian batsmen who have completed centuries by scoring 6 in all three formats of international cricket. This achievement is recorded in the names of Team India’s current captain Rohit Sharma, stylish batsman KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. He has celebrated his century by hitting sixes in all three formats – Test, ODI and T20I.
Unique Records: Cricketers who made 0 pairs and took 10 wickets in the same match
Rohit was the first batsman of India to do this feat.
‘Hitman’ Rohit Sharma is the first batsman from India to achieve this feat. He completed his century by hitting a six in the Bulawayo ODI match against Zimbabwe in May 2010. In the match, Rohit played an inning of 114 runs in 119 balls which included six fours and 4 sixes.
Later, he celebrated completing a century by hitting a six in the Mumbai Test against West Indies in November 2013 and in the T20I at Dharamshala in October 2015. In the Test held at his home ground in Mumbai, he hit a six over long on off the ball of Marlon Samuels and went straight from 99 runs to 105 runs. In this test, Rohit played an unbeaten inning of 111 runs in 127 balls which had 11 fours and 3 sixes. Rahul repeated Rohit’s charisma
After Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul became the second Indian batsman to complete a century with sixes in all three formats. The special thing is that Rahul had achieved this feat in a span of three months in the year 2016. On 11 June 2016, in his debut ODI against Zimbabwe, he completed his century by hitting a six. In the match, he not only completed his century by blasting the ball of Hamilton Masakadza over the long-on boundary for a six but also led India to victory. In his first ODI, he played an unbeaten inning of 100 runs in 115 balls which included 7 fours and a six.
After this, in the India-West Indies Kingston Test which started from 30 July 2016, Rahul completed his century by scoring 6. He completed his Test century by sending spinner Roston Chase’s ball over long off for a six. Starting the innings of Team India in the match, Rahul played an inning of 158 runs in 303 balls with the help of 15 fours and 3 sixes. Kohli had directly reached 98 to 104 runs with this six. As soon as his century was completed, the Indian team declared the second innings. Kohli also had the reins of leadership of the Indian team in the match. During this, he faced 119 balls and scored unbeaten 104 runs with the help of 12 fours and 2 sixes.
