The wait is over… Team India gets a new bowling coach, will take charge from September 1


New Delhi. Former South Africa fast bowler Morne Morkel has been appointed as the new bowling coach of Team India. His contract will start from September 1. Jai Shah himself gave this information to a cricket website. Gambhir had earlier also requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider Morkel’s name for the post of bowling coach.

Morkel has played 86 Tests, 117 ODIs and 44 T20 matches between 2006 and 2018. Let us tell you that both Gambhir and Morkel have had a good relationship in Lucknow Super Giants. Where, Gambhir worked as a mentor for two years. After Gambhir joined Kolkata Knight Riders and head coach Andy Flower moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore, Morkel remained as the bowling coach of the franchise along with new head coach Justin Langer.

Morne Morkel played international cricket between 2006 and 2018. He served as the bowling coach of Pakistan’s national cricket team until November 2023. Morkel made his Test debut in 2006 and played 86 Tests for the South African team. In March 2018, he became the fifth bowler to take 300 Test wickets for South Africa. He also played 117 ODIs and 44 T20Is. He made his debut in these two formats in 2007.

He made the announcement on 26 February 2018. Morkel announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket at the end of the four-match Test series against Australia. Morkel played his last international match against Australia in March 2018.
