Tahwwur Rana is the major mastermind of the 26/11 attack.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) team may soon visit the US to bring Tehwavur Rana convicted of the Mumbai attack (26/11). According to reports, the NIA team will have an Inspector General and Deputy Inspector General Rank Officers, who will visit the US in the next 1-2 days this month.
Information has been given to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of External Affairs about this. Rana’s extradition was approved by the US Supreme Court last week. After the verdict, Indian officials intensified the process of bringing Rana to India.
Tehwavur Rana was arrested by FBI in 2009. Rana was convicted for supporting Lashkar-e-Taiba in America.
NIA will also file a new charge sheet against Rana.
US court dismisses petition against extradition
On 13 November 2024, Rana appealed to the Supreme Court against the extradition decision of the lower court, which was rejected by the Supreme Court on 21 January. The US Supreme Court approved Rana’s extradition under the Indo-US extradition treaty.
This was the last chance to avoid extradition. Earlier he appealed to a court in San Francisco, where his petition was dismissed. The US court had said in its judgment that it could be sent to India under the extradition treaty between the two countries.
Rana’s name is also registered as an accused in the 405 -page charge sheet of the Mumbai attack. According to this, Rana is a member of ISI and Lashkar-e-Taiba. According to the charge sheet, Rana was helping David Coleman Headley, the main accused of the attack.

Who is to be punished?
Ajmal Kasab was caught alive from the terrorists involved in the Mumbai attack, who was later sentenced to death. Apart from Tahwwur Rana, another mastmind Saeed Jabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal was also involved in this attack.
Abu Jundal was an Indian operative working for the terrorist organization Lashkar. He was arrested in 2012. Kasab identified him. He has since been serving a sentence in jail. Rana is yet to be punished.
What now?
- Rana’s extradition will begin with the completion of legal action.

After the decision against him, Rana filed another petition in the Ninth Circuit Court. The decision came on Thursday. In which the habeas corpus was justified to dismiss the petition.
The panel admitted that Rana’s crime falls under the terms of the extradition treaty between the US and India. India has given strong evidence of the allegations against Rana regarding the attack.
