T20 World Champion India will play the tournament next year with a new captain, BCCI announced the team.

New Delhi. After creating history by winning the first title of Under 19 Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur, now the next mission of the Indian team will be T20 World Cup. India on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup to be played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from January 18 to February 2 next year.

The Women’s Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the team which will be led by Nikki Prasad while Sanika Chalke will be the vice-captain. The team has two wicketkeepers in the form of Kamalini G and Bhavika Ahire, while three standby players Nandana S, Ira J and Anadi T have also been included in the team.

A total of 16 teams will participate in this competition which have been divided into four groups. India are the defending champions and have been placed in Group A along with hosts Malaysia, West Indies and Sri Lanka. India will start its campaign against West Indies on 19 January. After that he will play matches against Malaysia (21 January) and Sri Lanka (23 January).

Group stage matches will be played between 19 and 23 January. The top three teams from each group will make it to the Super Six to be held between January 25 and 29. There will be two groups of six teams in the Super Six. In the Super Six, the top two teams from each group will make it to the semi-finals which will be played on January 31. The final will be held on February 2.

Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies qualified for the competition through their participation in the 2023 World Cup, while Malaysia got direct entry as the host. Nepal, Nigeria, Samoa, Scotland and America secured their places in the competition by winning the regional tournament.
