New Delhi. We must have seen Sunil Gavaskar hitting fours and sixes a lot on the cricket field. Now this cricket legend is seen in the role of a commentator. Gavaskar is the first batsman in the world to score 10 thousand runs in test cricket. In his childhood, such an incident happened with Gavaskar, popularly known as Little Master, which gives goosebumps even thinking about it. His mother’s love was destroyed in his childhood itself. If his uncle had not shown promptness, today Gavaskar would not have been a batsman but probably a fisherman.
Sunil Gavaskar was born on 10 July 1949 in a hospital in Mumbai. He comes from a middle class family. Along with him, many other children were born that day in the hospital where he was born. The nurse had swapped the baby by mistake. The nurse had mistakenly put him in the cradle of a fisherman’s family. No one was even aware of this exchange. Meanwhile, when Gavaskar’s uncle reached the hospital for the second time, he recognized within a minute that this child was not the one who was shown earlier.
How did uncle catch the mistake?
Gavaskar’s uncle had earlier noticed that there was a mark near his nephew’s ear. The new child given after the exchange had no such mark on his ear. He immediately created a ruckus in the hospital regarding this issue. After this, the search for the child was started in the hospital. At last Gavaskar’s uncle found that he was in a cradle kept by a fisherman’s family. After complete investigation, Gavaskar was returned to his family.
Impact of the incident on Gavaskar’s game too!
Little Master Gavaskar had also mentioned the incident in a humorous manner during a TV show. He had said that it affected him even during batting. He used to get out again and again while trying to bowl fishing out side the off stump. Even though now Sunny Paaji is telling this incident in a light-hearted manner, but just imagine, if his uncle had not caught this mistake, he would have been a part of a fisherman’s family and perhaps would have been associated with this business today. India would have missed out on getting such a great batsman. In such a situation, who would score runs in Test cricket? Gavaskar has also mentioned this dreadful incident in his autobiography.
