SL vs NZ Test: New Zealand helpless in front of Sri Lanka, 7 batsmen could not score 25 runs, Indian origin batsman kept fighting alone


New Delhi. After defeating England, the Sri Lankan cricket team has now taken the lead in the Test series against New Zealand with a win. Chasing the target in the first match played in Galle, the Kiwi team was all out for 211 runs on the last day. Rachin Ravindra, who was fighting alone in the second innings, could not lead the team to victory even after playing the biggest innings. In the first innings, host Sri Lanka had scored 305 runs and New Zealand had taken the lead by scoring 340 runs. After scoring 309 runs in the second innings, Sri Lanka had set a target of 275 runs for the Kiwi team.

The New Zealand team has faced defeat in the first match of the two-Test series on the Sri Lanka tour. In this match of the series being played under the Test Championship, the host Sri Lanka had won the toss and decided to bat first. On the basis of Kamindu Mendis’s century and Kusal Mendis’s fifty, the team scored 305 runs. The New Zealand team scored 340 runs and took a significant lead of 35 runs, thanks to half-centuries from Tom Latham, former captain Kane Williamson and Darrell Mitchell.

Sri Lanka set a target of 275 runs
After being behind by 35 runs in the first innings, Sri Lanka scored 309 runs on the basis of half-centuries from Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews. All three seniors played fighting innings against New Zealand to get the team out of trouble. Karunaratne scored the highest score of 83 runs while Chandimal scored 61 runs while Mathews played an important role in setting the target of 275 runs for New Zealand by playing an inning of 50 runs.

7 batsmen could not score 25 runs
While chasing the target of 275 runs against Sri Lanka, New Zealand’s batting failed miserably. 7 batsmen could not reach double figures. Together they scored a total of 22 runs in the second innings. Indian origin Rachin Ravindra played an inning of 92 runs but it was not enough for the team’s victory. Ejaz Patel kept struggling till the end but there was no one left to support him at the other end. Sri Lanka won the match by 63 runs.
