Senate approval required to become Defense Minister According to the US Constitution, it is necessary for the person nominated for the Cabinet to get approval from the Senate. For this he has to appear before the Senate committee and answer their questions. After the approval of the committee, the Senate declares him eligible for the post by majority vote.
If senators felt that Hegseth was not worthy of the position, he would not be able to get Senate approval. After this, Trump will have to change his decision and send the nomination of another person for the post of Defense Minister.
