New Delhi. Sunrisers Eastern Cape entered the SA20 playoffs after defeating Durban Super Giants by six wickets. The defending champions made a comeback after three consecutive defeats. Last season’s leading wicket taker Marco Jensen (2/23) made a comeback with the new ball in a brilliant performance. In the end, Aiden Markram gave the victory by hitting a brilliant six.
Jensen received good support from England paceman Richard Gleeson (2/19) and left-arm spinner Liam Dawson (2/11) along with Ottniel Bartman (2/30). Who restricted the visiting team to 115/8. Sunrisers Eastern Cape then chased the target by six wickets with 28 balls remaining. When called upon to bowl, Jensen dismissed Durban Super Giants opener Brandon King with the second ball of the innings, sending the St George’s Park crowd into a wild cheer.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s counter innings started with opener David Bedingham scoring a quick 39 runs, after which Jordan Harmon maintained the pace by scoring 23 runs in the middle order. But captain Aiden Markram gave the finishing touch, Sunrisers chased the bonus point and the captain finished the match with an unbeaten 31 runs in just 20 balls. Markram secured the victory by hitting a big six. Which made the victory even more special for the home supporters.
Jensen said after the victory, “Everything is going well at the moment. Bowling in the powerplay is not easy, for me it is all about taking wickets and everything falls into place. I try to bowl consistently. We have fans… I appreciate their coming. New Zealand player Kane Williamson (44 runs in 45 balls) handled the innings of Durban Super Giants, but this innings was not enough.
