Jaishankar told Rubio that India supports legitimate mobility, but illegal immigration and activities related to it are neither desirable nor appropriate.

Jaishankar was talking to reporters at the Indian Embassy in Washington, where he gave information about a meeting with his American counterpart Rubio and a meeting of quad foreign ministers.

India ready to withdraw its citizens
Foreign Minister Jaishankar clarified India’s stand on this issue and said, ‘We are supporters of legal mobility and want India’s talented people to get more opportunities globally. We are against illegal immigration and mobility, because other illegal activities are also associated with it. It is neither designed nor good.

He said that India has always been a stance that if an Indian citizen is illegally living abroad, then India is ready for a legitimate return. He said, ‘We have always been a side of our people that if any of our citizens are not in the legal way, then we are ready for a legitimate return. There is a debate on this, but our side is clear on this issue.

On the number of departures of illegal Indians from America, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said, “We have seen some numbers, but I want to warn you about their number (18000), because we have to verify that he is an Indian.”

Concern over the delay in the visa
Dr. Jaishankar also raised the issue of delay in the visa process during a conversation with US Secretary of State Rubio. He said that if it takes 400 days to get a visa, then it will be a hindrance in advancing the relations between the two countries properly.

Jaishankar said, ‘We have requested the US Secretary of State to ensure valid and easy mobility for mutual benefits. Due to the delay in the visa, it will not be possible to better save the relationship.

The US Secretary of State also took cognizance of the words of Jaishankar and assured to take appropriate steps in this direction. This discussion on issues like legitimate mobility, illegal immigration prevention and improvement in visa process between the two countries is considered important towards further strengthening India-US relations.
