Actually, the birth rate in Russia is 1.5 children per woman. Whereas to maintain the population of the country, the birth rate should be 2.1 children per woman. On the other hand, 10 lakh citizens of Russia have left the country so far since the war against Ukraine started. Most of them are young people.

Russia is among the top 10 most populous countries. However, its population has been steadily declining over the past few years.

Putin had said- women should give birth to 8 children This is not the first time Putin has expressed concern about the country’s declining birth rate. Earlier in December last year, Putin had asked Russian women to give birth to at least 8 children. There is a need to start the tradition of large families in Russian homes.

Putin had said, “In many communities, there is still a trend of having more children to expand the family and maintain traditions. We need to remember that in the times of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers, there used to be 7-8 children in a household.”

Russia’s birth rate is at a 25-year low According to Russian government data, the birth rate in Russia is at its lowest level since 1999. Less than 1 lakh children were born in June this year in Russia, which is among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of population. About 6 lakh children were born in the first half of 2024. This is 16 thousand less than last year.

On the other hand, more than 3 lakh 25 thousand people died in Russia from January to June this year. Due to this, the population of the country is continuously decreasing. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in July that this situation is disastrous for the future of the country.

Authorities in Russia’s north-eastern region of Karelia have launched new schemes for college students who become mothers. Under this scheme, students under the age of 25 who give birth to healthy children in local colleges and universities will be given about Rs 92,000.
