The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the reappointment of Amitabh Chaudhary as Managing Director and CEO of Axis Bank for three more years, with effect from January 1. “We now wish to inform you that the Reserve Bank of India has approved the reappointment of Amitabh Choudhary as Managing Director and CEO of the bank with effect from January 1, 2025, with effect from January 31, 2025,” Axis Bank said in a filing. It is for a period of three years till December, 2027 (both days inclusive).”
Shareholders had approved Chaudhary’s reappointment at the 30th annual general meeting on July 26.
Who is Amitabh Choudhary?
The MD and CEO of Axis Bank joined the company on January 1, 2019, before which he was with HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company for nine years.
Chaudhary is an engineer from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani and a post graduate in business management from IIM, Ahmedabad. He started his career at Bank of America in 1987, where he served as Head of Technology Investment Banking for Asia, Head of Wholesale Banking and Regional Finance for Global Markets, Chief Finance Officer of Bank of America (India) and Chief Financial Officer for Mumbai and Delhi. Worked in various roles like Relationship Manager in Wholesale Banking.
He joined Credit Lyonnais Securities in 2001 as Head of Structured Finance Practice and then Head of Investment Banking Franchise for South East Asia before joining Infosys BPO in 2003.
Before joining HDFC Life, Chaudhary was also the managing director and CEO of Infosys BPO and head of the testing unit of Infosys Technologies.
