What is the summit in which Modi addressed, what is India’s stand on the threats of the world, answers to 3 important questions…
Question 1: Why is the Summit of the Future happening? answer: The purpose of this summit is to save the future of the earth from future threats. Issues like global peace, sustainable development, climate change, human rights and gender are being discussed in the summit. In 2021, UN Chief Antonio Guterres had demanded to call a meeting in which these challenges could be discussed. This summit is being held with a delay of 3 years.
In fact, in 2015, recognizing the dangers facing the world, the UN had set 17 goals before the world leaders. Almost 10 years have passed and only 17% of these goals have been achieved. Between 1970 and 2021, more than 20 lakh people have died in 11,778 disasters due to climate change.
UN wants to stop them at any cost. Antonio Guterres believes that if the world does not take any action now, it will be too late to save the earth. Therefore the UN Summit of the Future took place on 22 and 23 September.
Question 2: What is India’s stand on the threats facing the world? answer: India leads the Global South countries. Be it climate change or global peace or human rights, Global South countries are struggling with these issues. In such a situation, India has been in favor of holding this summit.
India’s stand on summit issues…
1) Global Peace- PM Modi says, “This is not the time for war.” India demands changes in other UN institutions including UNSC. India believes that unless new countries are added to global organizations, it is not possible to bring about any significant change in the world.
2) Climate Change- India’s stand is clear from this statement of Modi. He had said-
India has no role in destroying the world. India’s role in the carbon emissions of the entire world is negligible. India is the only country in the G20 which has been the first to complete the climate goal.
3) Threats of technology- India believes that cyber crimes are becoming one of the major threats of the world. Fair rules are needed to control technology.
Question 3: Why has Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended this summit? answer: Prime Minister Modi attended the summit to present India’s side. Modi told the countries participating in the UN what India is doing regarding the threats looming on the world.
