The night witches we are talking about today are called ‘Night Witches’ in English. These were not ghosts, but a group of women soldiers who used to wreak havoc on the enemies on behalf of the Russian army. Actually, this group of women soldiers was from the Soviet Union All Women 588 Bomber Regiment.
Their job was to bomb Hitler’s Nazi soldiers in the darkness of the night. They did their job so cleanly that by the time the enemy got a hint of their arrival, everything would be destroyed. This is the reason why they have been recorded in history as Night Witches.
3 thousand tons of bombs were dropped on the enemies
According to the report of HistoryHit, the first mission of this regiment took place in 1942, in this mission the Night Witches were given three 588th planes and they were told that they have to target the German division. This squad made its mission successful, but in this mission one of their planes crashed. It is said that during World War 2 the Night Witches completed 2400 missions. During this time they rained about 3 thousand tons of bombs on the enemies.
What was special about the Night Witches
The specialty of this military squad was that the women pilots included in it were experts in flying planes at very low altitudes. In this way, they could escape the enemy’s radar. Apart from this, their planes were very light and made of wood. These women were given such tough training that if they ever got caught by the enemy on the ground, they could single-handedly kill three to four Nazi soldiers.
