Mithun Chakraborty will receive Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award


Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty will be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award 2024, the government’s highest recognition in the field of cinema, on Monday. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced this on X (formerly Twitter).

The Union Minister said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the award will be presented to Mithun Chakraborty at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8. Chakraborty, an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, has worked predominantly in Hindi and Bengali cinema. The veteran actor made his acting debut in 1976 with the Mrinal Sen-directed Mrigaya, for which he also received his first National Film Award for Best Actor.

Won two more National Film Awards

Best Actor for the 1992 film Tahadhar Katha and Best Supporting Actor for the 1998 film Swami Vivekananda. Additionally, Mithun popularized disco dancing in India through chartbuster films like Disco Dancer and Jimmy Jimmy and Yaad Aa Raha Hai.

In 1990, he was also seen with megastar Amitabh Bachchan in the film Agneepath produced by Yash Johar. He also received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Agneepath.

Chief judge in the dance reality show Dance India Dance or DID

Chakraborty was also the chief judge on the dance reality show Dance India Dance or DID, also known as Grandmaster, from 2009–18. Mithun is also a record holder in the Limca Book of Records for releasing 19 films as a lead actor in 1989, a record that has not been broken in Bollywood till date.

Known as Mithun Da among fans and industry colleagues, the veteran actor was seen in films like Guru (2007), Housefull 2 ​​(2012), OMG – Oh My God! (2012), and The Kashmir Files (2022). He joined BJP in March 2021 ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections.
