Kejriwal government is charging double bill after promising half bill? You will be shocked to know the truth, Congress alleges

New Delhi. Both Congress and BJP have opened a front against the increase in electricity rates in Delhi. Yesterday, BJP protested in Delhi against the increased electricity rates. On Wednesday, it was Congress’s turn. Under the leadership of Delhi Congress state president Devendra Yadav, Congressmen protested at more than 55 main intersections and famous crowded places across Delhi on Wednesday. Congress alleged that the Kejriwal government has increased the PPAC charges on bills by about 9 percent to provide personal benefit to the electricity companies.

Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav said that in the 5 years from 2015 to 2020-21, consumers were given a subsidy of Rs 11,743 crore under 200 units. During this period, the Kejriwal government looted Rs 37 thousand 227 crore in the form of PPAC, pension, fixed charge, surcharge, electricity, regulatory charge etc. on bills. Electricity bills of closed houses and commercial institutions are also coming with surcharge, which is injustice to the consumers.

Yadav further said, people are getting electricity bills much higher than their consumption and during the Congress regime, the average per unit was around Rs 5 per unit, which should have been Rs 2.50 now according to Half Bill. The Kejriwal government is charging Rs 10 per unit on an average from consumers, which will be a huge financial burden on the middle class, small shopkeepers, small industries, industrial units and business institutions.

Congress says that due to this, electricity has become the most expensive in residential and commercial areas in the capital. Yadav said that Delhiites were promised to halve their electricity bills but the bills which were to be halved have doubled. The government has been putting additional burden on electricity consumers for the last 10 years and has broken the back of the people of Delhi by increasing the PPAC surcharge on electricity bills by 6 percent in July 2022, 10 percent in June 2023 and now by 9 percent in 2024. While the PPAC charge on electricity bills was 1.7 percent in 2015, it has become 46 percent PPAC after 8.7 percent.

BJP has also accused the Kejriwal government of increasing the tax on electricity and putting additional burden on the people of Delhi. BJP has also come out on the streets over the increased electricity rates. BJP MLA from Rohini, Vijender Gupta, says that on one hand the Kejriwal government is increasing the electricity prices and on the other hand its leaders are misleading the people of Delhi. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is responsible for this, because he has taken DRC hostage in a way. DRC is completely working at the behest of Arvind Kejriwal.
