Sydney. The name of the Test series played between India and Australia is Border Gavaskar Trophy. Great Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has given this name to this series in honor of Australian legend Allan Border. After 10 years, the Australian team won it from India. The deciding match of the series was played in Sydney, which the Indian team lost in just three days. Cricket Australia did not invite Gavaskar to come on stage to present the trophy to Australia, which won the trophy 3-1. The Indian veteran looked unhappy about this.

Gavaskar has expressed his displeasure over not being invited to present the trophy named after him and Allan Border to the Australian team. Australia, which had lost in the first match played in Perth, won the Border Gavaskar Trophy for the first time since 2014 by defeating India by six wickets in the fifth and last Test. Allan Border gave the trophy to the Australian team while Gavaskar was not called despite being present on the field at that time.

Gavaskar later told Code Sports, ‘I would have been happy to go to the prize distribution ceremony. After all, this is the Border Gavaskar Trophy and is related to Australia and India. I was on the field itself. I don’t care that the trophy was being given to Australia. They played better cricket and won. Ok. Just because I am an Indian. I would have been delighted to present the trophy with my good friend Allan Border.

India and Australia have been playing for the Border Gavaskar Trophy since 1996-97. This time, in the five-match series last week, the record of viewership at the Melbourne Cricket Ground has been broken. Since 2014, Australia had to face consecutive defeats against India in this series. India had captured the Border Gavaskar Trophy by winning the series at home in 2016 and again in Australia in 2018 and 2020. The Indian team also won the series played in India in 2022.
