New Delhi. The Indian team had to face a shameful defeat against Australia in the last match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. On the third day of the Sydney Test, the host team had a target of 162 runs to win. Australia achieved this easily by losing 4 wickets. By winning the last match of the 5-match Test series, Australia again captured the Border Gavaskar Trophy after a decade. With the 3-1 victory, Kangaroo captain Pat Cummins did what he had said before the start of the series. After this defeat, India’s hopes of reaching the World Test Championship final have also ended.
Australia has won this trophy again after facing consecutive defeats since 2014. The last four Border Gavaskar Trophies were in the name of the Indian team. Team India had won the series while playing at home in 2016. After this, Border won the Gavaskar Trophy by winning the series in Australia in 2018 and 2020. The Indian team also won the series played in India in 2022.
Game over in 3 days
The Indian team could not survive even for three days in the Sydney Test against Australia. Batting first, India scored 185 runs in the first innings and took a lead of 4 runs by bundling out Australia for 181 runs. Team India had a chance to win the match by making a big score but the entire team collapsed for just 157 runs in the second innings. The host team had approximately 3 days to chase the target of 162 runs. Almost the entire game of the third day was left and after this the match was to be played for two more days.
Bumrah’s 32 wickets went in vain
Indian team’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah gave his all in the Border Gavaskar Trophy and created a new record by taking 32 wickets but it all went in vain. Australia gave a big shock by winning the 5-match series against India by 3-1. The record made by Bishan Singh Bedi by taking 31 wickets while playing the series in Australia was broken in this series but Jasprit Bumrah would never like to remember it because these wickets could not help the team win.
