Israeli citizens have started demonstrations against the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. According to the Times of Israel report, the protesters have accused the government of surrendering to terrorists.
Hundreds of protesters took to the streets on Tuesday evening to protest against the deal. The protesters are calling this deal a threat to the future.
On the other hand, demonstrations were also held in support of ceasefire. Thousands of protesters have been demanding ceasefire for the last several days. These protesters also celebrated after receiving the news related to ceasefire on Tuesday.
Ceasefire may soon be announced between Israel and Hamas. According to reports, the first phase of ceasefire will be on 42 days. Israeli officials said on Monday that 33 hostages would be released in the first phase of the deal. Of these, 5 will be Israeli women soldiers. In return, Israel will release 250 Palestinian prisoners.
The remaining hostages will be released after 15 days. During this period, talks will also be held on permanently implementing the ceasefire.
There are continuous demonstrations in Israel for the release of hostages.
Deal completed on ceasefire in Gaza
There has almost been an agreement between Israel and Hamas regarding ceasefire in Gaza. News agency AP gave this news on Tuesday quoting two officials involved in this deal. This agreement was negotiated in Doha, the capital of Qatar, with the help of Egypt, Qatar and America.
The final talks for the deal took place yesterday, January 14. Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Al Thani hosted the conversation. Israel was represented by Mossad Chief David Barnia and Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar. At the same time, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Biden’s envoy Brett McGurk were present here from the US side.
It is not yet known whether Hamas has accepted this deal or not. After getting approval there, it will be presented in the Israeli cabinet. The ceasefire deal will be implemented immediately as soon as it is approved there.
Palestinian citizens will return to North Gaza
According to CNN report, under the ceasefire deal, Israel will allow Palestinian citizens displaced from North Gaza to return. However, for security reasons the presence of Israeli soldiers may remain in this area.
A buffer zone will be created between Gaza and Israel. Both Israel and Hamas have different demands regarding the buffer zone. Israel is demanding a buffer zone of 2 km from the border, while Hamas wants a buffer zone of 300 to 500 meters as before October 2023.
On the other hand, Israel has refused to return the dead body of Hamas Chief Yahya Sinwar under the deal.
Yahya Sinwar was killed by Israeli soldiers in an encounter on October 17 last year.
PM Netanyahu met the families of hostages
Israeli PM Netanyahu met the families of hostages held by Hamas on Tuesday, January 14. During the meeting, the family members demanded the early release of the hostages from Netanyahu.
The representative of newly elected US President Donald Trump has also been included in the ceasefire deal. According to the US Secretary of State, it will be Trump’s responsibility to take the ceasefire forward, hence his representative has also been included.
On the other hand, Donald Trump while giving a statement on the deal said that, we are very close to completing the deal. If they (Hamas) do not agree to this, then there will be more problems for them.
