US President Donald Trump has lifted the ban on supply of 900 kg (2000 pounds) to Israel. Former President Joe Biden had banned the supply of these bombs to reduce the number of people who died in the Israel-Hamas Jung.
Posting from his social media account on Saturday, Trump wrote that,
The orders that Israel had given to the US and which has been paid. He is being sent to Israel.
According to news agency PTI, a Trump official confirmed sending heavy bombs to Israel.
Biden banned the supply of heavy bombs in May 2024 to prevent Israel’s full scale attack at Rafa city of Southern Gaza in May 2024 while being President. However, a month later, Israel captured the city.
Because of this, 1 million people were forced to flee.
Ban imposed due to Israel entering Rafa
Biden accused Israel of mass targeting people collectively in an interview to CNN in May last year. He said-
Citizens have been killed in Gaza. These bombs are used to target population centers. I made it clear that if they enter the rafa, I would not supply arms that have been used in other cities.
After Biden’s ban, 1700 bombs of 500 pounds to be sent to Israel were also stuck. However, they were given to Israel after a few weeks.
More than 45 thousand people have been killed in Gaza due to Israeli attacks.
Decision just 5 days after swearing
Donald Trump has taken this step on the fifth day of his tenure. He has also described the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel as his achievement. So far, Hamas has released 7 Israeli hostages in ceasefire. In return, Israel released hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
Talk is yet to begin at the second phase of the ceasefire. In this, there will be discussion on the release of all Israeli hostages and permanent ceasefire from Hamas’s captivity.
On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has threatened that if Hamas does not release the rest of the hostages, he can start war against him again.
