New Delhi. Shreyas Iyer will play for Punjab Kings in the 18th season of IPL. He was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. Shreyas has become the most expensive player in IPL auction history. Under his captaincy, he made Kolkata Knight Riders champion in 2023. Iyer made his debut in IPL in 2015. Shreyas played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for the first time in IPL. He was bought by Delhi in the IPL auction in 2015 for Rs 2.6 crore. Then that season he was the most expensive among the uncapped players.
Shreyas Iyer impressed everyone with his batting skills in his debut IPL season. Playing for Delhi, he scored 439 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 128.36, which included four half-centuries. Due to Shreyas’s brilliant innings, he was chosen Emerging Player of the Tournament that year. Since then Shreyas played many IPL seasons. Recently BCCI also dropped him from its central contract. After which Shreyas turned to the domestic tournament.
Shreyas Iyer’s IPL career
From 2015 to 2021, he played an important role on behalf of the franchise. He was made the captain in the mid-season of 2018. Under his captaincy, Delhi Capitals was successful in reaching the finals in 2020. Iyer broke the record of Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who was bought by KKR for Rs 24.75 crore in the last auction. Iyer has played 115 IPL matches in which he has scored 3127 runs at a strike rate of 127.48 in which 21 half centuries have been recorded. His best score is 96 runs.
