India and Afghanistan discussed issues including business, trade and sports.
A high level meeting was held between the Afghan Taliban and Indian officials on Wednesday in Dubai. This meeting was attended by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri from the Indian side and Maulvi Aamir Khan, Foreign Minister of the Taliban government from the Afghanistan side.
The agenda of this meeting is based on humanitarian and development assistance, business, trade, sports, cultural relations, regional security. In this meeting, the issue of promoting bilateral trade between the two countries in different areas including Chabahar port of Iran was also discussed.
The Afghan minister thanked India for helping during the crisis. On the other hand, it was said from the Indian side that New Delhi is ready to meet the development needs of the Afghan people in the coming times also.
Indian External Affairs Ministry said-
Keeping in view the current needs of development activities, it has been decided that India will consider involvement in development projects of Afghanistan in future.
Emphasis on strengthening sports relations between the two countries Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized that India attaches great importance to its historical and cultural ties with Afghanistan. Both countries also agreed to strengthen their sports relations. Especially cricket, which is very much liked in both the countries.
India says that it is ready to meet the development needs of Afghanistan in the coming times.
India criticizes Pakistan airstrike in Afghanistan
Just two days before this meeting, India has condemned the Pakistani airstrike in Afghanistan. In this airstrike carried out on December 24, 46 people including many women and children from Afghanistan were killed.
India condemned Pakistan and said that blaming others for its domestic failures is an old habit of Islamabad. We unequivocally condemn any attack on innocent civilians. The Afghan government had also warned Pakistan regarding this attack.
Whereas Pakistan said that it had carried out this airstrike targeting terrorist bases operating across the border.
Till now Taliban does not have diplomatic recognition from any country
It has been more than 3 years since the Taliban rule in Afghanistan, but till now they have not received diplomatic recognition from any country. Since 2021, the Indian government has also been in constant contact with the Taliban, but has not yet given it diplomatic recognition.
Diplomatic recognition is, in a way, the first step in building diplomatic relations. When a sovereign and independent country recognizes another sovereign or independent country, diplomatic relations begin between those two countries. To give recognition or not is a political decision. When diplomatic relations are formed, both the countries become bound to obey and respect international law.
