ICC looking for new female director after Indira Nooyi’s six-year term ends

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is looking for a new female independent director after PepsiCo chief Indra Nooyi’s six-year term ended last month. The world body will also have to find a new president after incumbent chairman Greg Barclay declined to seek a third term.

Nooyi became the first independent female director of the ICC in 2018. She has completed her maximum term. It is understood that the ICC board has already started looking for a high-profile name like Nooyi who was one of the most well-known faces in the corporate world.

According to ICC rules, “The Board of Directors will elect a person who must be a woman and who must meet the director eligibility criteria to ensure that the interests of equality, diversity and inclusion in the game of cricket are properly represented from time to time. A person will be elected who will serve as a director (independent director).”

When asked about the exact criteria for the appointment, a source close to the ICC board said that it could be any eminent woman, be it from the corporate world or sports. He said, “It could be anyone who has contributed to sports, business or in general. For example, it could be Meg Lanning, Charlotte Edwards or any influential woman from the business community.”

The Independent Director shall be selected by the Board of Directors for a term of two years from a list of at least three recommendations provided by the Nomination Committee. She shall also be eligible to vote during the election of the Chairman.
