‘I am about to turn 56…’ What did the PM say to Indians in Nigeria? Modi-Modi slogans were raised a lot


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the Indian community in Nigeria during the first stop of his three-nation tour. He started his speech with ‘Sannu, Nigeria’. This traditional Nigerian greeting means ‘Hello’.

PM Modi said on this occasion, ‘Your affection is a big source of capital for me. To meet you, to spend time with you – I will cherish these moments for the rest of my life. This is my first visit to Nigeria as Prime Minister, but I have not come alone. I have brought with me the fragrance of Indian soil and lots of blessings of Indians.

Amid slogans of ‘Modi-Modi’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, the Prime Minister said, ‘Every Indian citizen is proud of your achievements. Mine turns 56 (chest swells with pride). I thank the President and people of Nigeria. The kind of welcome I have received is incredible. President Tinubu today honored me with the National Award of Nigeria. This is not an honor for Modi but for crores of Indians.

PM Modi enumerated the role of Indians in Nigeria
PM Modi highlighted the role of Indian diaspora in the development of Nigeria. He said, ‘You have given not only your hard work and determination, but also your hearts. The Indian community in Nigeria has been a companion in all the ups and downs of Nigeria.

The Prime Minister also said, ‘Those who have been in Nigeria since their 40s or 60s – you will find that many of them have been taught by an Indian teacher. There are many Indian doctors who serve Nigerians. Many Indians have established their businesses in Nigeria and have contributed to the development of Nigeria.
