Incidents like rape or molestation do not happen by watching web series or serials. It is innate in humans. Now think, whether there were fights in people’s homes after watching Mahabharata, how many saints became people in the country after watching Ramayana. Every wrongdoing happening in the society is blamed on web series or
.
If two friends talk, it will be loose talk, if there is a fight between brother-in-law and wife, it will be of a different kind. This is the truth we show on TV and OTT. If you want to see the truth then see the complete truth, otherwise half-truth is dangerous.
Sukesh Anand, who played comedy roles in Jija Ji Chhat Par Hain, Tera Yaar Hoon Main Aur Meri Hanikarak Biwi, while talking to Dainik Bhaskar, talked about the content served on OTT.
Sukesh is here in Rajasthan in connection with the shooting of actor, writer and producer Raghuveer Shekhawat’s film Hunkar, which won the Dadasaheb Phalke TV Award in the year 2021.

The picture is from the set of the film Hunkar. Its shooting is going on in Bharija village of Sikar.
Shekhawat became a monkey in village Ramlila
Rajasthan’s Raghuveer Shekhawat, who has written 125 TV serials including Balika Vadhu, Rangrasiya, Diya Aur Baati Hum, Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain and Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise, is originally from Rajasthan. It is claimed that he is the first writer in the country who has written so many (125) shows for TV.
Raghuveer Shekhawat says- I was born in Bharija, Sikar. I remember I was 15 years old and Ramleel was being organized in the village. I played the role of a monkey in it. After this I started writing. At the age of 15, I started writing dialogues for Ramleela. Father was a captain in the Indian Navy. When he was posted in Lonavala, he came to Mumbai at the age of 22. After this, due to his passion for writing, he used to watch Doordarshan serials.
Started from theater
Shekhawat says-
He used to make rounds of the producer’s office to give auditions. If there was no selection, he would come home and sit back to write. Had failed the audition about 10 to 15 times. During this time, he met Harshat Shivcharan, a writer from Mumbai, during a stage show in December 1995.
He said- Harshat Shivcharan used to be a famous Marathi writer. He had written many films, TV shows and dialogues in Marathi. Although he did not work much in Hindi. After working with me, he also made his Hindi debut. Working with him was a golden chance for me too. After reading my poetry and dialogues, he made me his assistant. This is how my career started.
The film also stars Neetu Vaghela. She has appeared in many TV shows like Diya Aur Baati.
Regarding obscene content on OTT, Shekhawat says-
I never included obscene content in my script. I will somehow try to stay away from such language or scenes in future also. I believe that a film or a TV show which the entire family can sit together and watch is the audience. I cannot write content which you have to watch secretly or surreptitiously.
In Rajasthan our dialects change every 100 KM. There probably won’t be this much variation in any other state. I am a writer producer. I have written 125 TV shows and have also written many films. I saw that Rajasthani language film industry can bring richness. In such a situation, I have come here to shoot Hunkar.
‘We did not start fighting after seeing the Ukraine-Russia war’
Sukesh Anand, who is playing the role of a politician in the film, has different thinking from his director. He says- Web series shows the truth of the society, which people also want to watch. You will understand that when two friends talk, they will sometimes talk to each other casually. How can one show respect there? So the truth should be shown, otherwise the public or the teenagers are unable to connect with it. He said- Right now there is a war going on between Ukraine and Russia, there is a war between Iran and Israel. Then why are we not fighting? These things do not happen by seeing. This is the weak mentality of a human being.
He said-
No Vinoba Bhave or Mahatma Gandhi is being created by taking inspiration from web series. No woman is being created like Rani Laxmibai. That is a person’s thinking, you cannot change it.
Sukesh Anand said- When there was no TV, there was competition of theater films. When television came, there was competition between TV films and serials. Now there is competition between OTT platforms and web series. Competition for quality is very important. Competition is a very good thing, it improves quality and gives opportunity for improvement.
