Karachi. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is adamant on holding the Champions Trophy at its place but its arrangements have been exposed. The National Women’s Championship was ended midway on Monday. Five players narrowly escaped the fire incident in the team hotel. PCB had booked an entire floor of the hotel for the five teams and team officials but it had to be canceled midway due to the fire.
A source said that except five players, all the cricketers and officials were at the National Stadium either for a match or a net session when the fire broke out. The source said, “Five players were in their rooms when the fire broke out. Due to this, some property of players and officials has been damaged.
“Following the fire incident in the team hotel, the PCB has decided to cancel the National Women’s ODI Tournament 2024-25 in Karachi,” the PCB said in a statement. The good thing is that no player was injured because the PCB immediately evacuated the five players present in the hotel at the time of the incident. He was safely taken to Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre.
Pakistan refuses hybrid model
ICC Champions Trophy is to be organized in Pakistan next year. India has refused to go to Pakistan and play. ICC has asked PCB to conduct the tournament in hybrid model. Pakistan has clearly refused to hold the Champions Trophy in this model. ICC does not want to conduct the tournament without India and Pakistan is not agreeing. If PCB does not agree to ICC then the tournament can be shifted outside.
