How much will Jay Shah earn as ICC chairman? He gets this much money from BCCI in a day

Jay Shah’s Salary as ICC Chairman? Jay Shah has been elected as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). He will take over this responsibility from the current chairman Greg Barclay on December 1 this year. Jay Shah has been holding the post of Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since 2019. This news has aroused interest among cricket lovers about how much money he gets as BCCI secretary. And what could be his salary when he takes over as ICC chairman.

regular salary is not received
Because the post of BCCI secretary is honorary, Jai Shah does not receive a regular salary. The same applies to the BCCI president, vice-president and treasurer. None of them receive a monthly salary. However, according to MyKhel.com, they are paid through allowances and reimbursements. Jai Shah gets paid around Rs 84,000 (US$1,000) per day for attending international cricket meetings or tours. MyKhel reported that Jai Shah gets Rs 40,000 per day for meetings within India.

stay in a luxury hotel
Jay Shah is entitled to Rs 30,000 per day for all travel he does in India for BCCI work. This allowance has nothing to do with meetings. The BCCI also bears his living expenses during his India and international tours. On most occasions, the BCCI itself books luxury hotel suites for him. Apart from this, he travels in business class.

There will not be much change in ICC
Jay Shah’s becoming the ICC chairman will not change his allowances and reimbursements much. Like the BCCI, the ICC also does not have a fixed salary for top officials. Instead, they get paid through various allowances and reimbursements related to their roles. According to MyKhel, the ICC has not shared anything openly about these payments. Officials like the chairman are given allowances to attend meetings and fulfill their responsibilities. The ICC ensures that officials can focus on performing their responsibilities without worrying about expenses.

August 27 was the last date for nomination for the election of the new chairman of the ICC. By the stipulated time, no one other than Jay Shah filed nomination for this post. After this, the ICC Executive Board declared Jay Shah as the unopposed winner.

5th Indian to lead the ICC
Jai Shah is the fifth Indian to lead the ICC. Before him, Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, Shashank Manohar and N Srinivasan have led the ICC. Jagmohan Dalmiya and Sharad Pawar have served as ICC President. While Shashank Manohar and N Srinivasan have been Chairman.

Good time to enter ICC
There couldn’t have been a better time for Shah to become ICC chairman. He has to undergo a mandatory ‘cooling off’ period from 2025 to 2028. Under the BCCI constitution, officials can hold office for 18 consecutive years. This includes the tenure of nine national boards and nine state units. But a person can hold office only for six consecutive years. After this, he will have to take a three-year break.
