Hazelwood’s statement before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, said- our focus will be on making a plan against Jaiswal and Gill

Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood said that his team will focus more on devising a strategy to counter Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill during the Border-Gavaskar series as his team has played very little cricket against these young Indian batsmen. The five-Test Border-Gavaskar series will start in Perth on November 22.

While India would like to maintain its dominance over this prestigious trophy, Australia would like to counter it with their strong bowling after facing consecutive defeats on home soil in 2018-19 and 2020-21. Jaiswal and Gill, along with captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have emerged as India’s top batsmen in recent times.

This“Our strategy is probably more focused on the new players against whom we haven’t played much Test cricket, like (Yashasvi) Jaiswal and even Shubman Gill, who we have played less against,” Hazlewood told ‘Star Sports.’ Hazlewood, who is part of the Australia fast bowling attack trio along with captain Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, said, “We have played against Virat (Kohli), Rohit (Sharma) and others for years, so we know what to do. Our plan doesn’t really change much. It’s about the basics. We have been facing them for a long time.”

Hazelwood said that Australia rarely falters when it comes to getting the basics right. He said, “We usually succeed on our plans nine times out of 10. However, in Test cricket, one has to adapt to the circumstances. Things keep changing throughout the day or innings. Our effort is to execute the plans.
