President Anura dissolved the Parliament Sri Lankan President Dissanayake dissolved Parliament on Tuesday night. Now parliamentary elections will be held in the country on 14 November. Before the presidential election, Dissanayake had said that he would immediately dissolve Parliament and order midterm elections.

The previous Parliament of Sri Lanka was constituted in August 2020. That means this Parliament has been dissolved 11 months before the scheduled time.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya (54) and President Anura are both National People’s Power (NPP) MPs. NPP has only 3 seats in the 225-seat Parliament of Sri Lanka.

Anura had also contested the presidential election in 2019. During this period he got only 3% votes. Harini Amarasuriya also campaigned along with the President in these elections.
