New Delhi. Many cricket fans were keeping an eye on the performance of the Indian team in Australia. Before the 5-match series, India had lost against New Zealand in India. During the series, there were no runs from the bats of captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The hopes of the World Test Championship final depended on the result of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Both the great batsmen of India disappointed. Virat Kohli still played a century but Rohit’s bat failed miserably.
Rohit Sharma could not play the first match of Border Gavaskar Trophy due to the birth of a child. The captain has scored only 31 runs in 3 matches during the series. Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has expressed concern about Rohit Sharma’s position in the team. This concern has come after India’s 184-run defeat in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Pathan believes that Rohit’s place in the team is because of his captaincy and not because of his batting performance.
Rohit doesn’t get a place in the playing eleven
Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports, “A player who has scored almost 20,000 runs. The way Rohit is struggling right now, it seems that his form is not supporting him. What is happening right now is that he is the captain, so he is playing. If he had not been the captain, perhaps he would not have been playing right now. You would have a set team. KL Rahul would have been playing at the top, Jaiswal would have been there, Shubman Gill would have come to bat after that. If we talk looking at his current form, the way he is struggling with batting, perhaps there is no place for him in the playing eleven.”
