Trump talked about changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico while speaking to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
Donald Trump, who is taking oath as the US President on January 20, said that he will change the name of ‘Gulf of Mexico’ to ‘Gulf of America’. Mar Trump said that this name sounds more ‘beautiful’ and it is right to keep this name.
Trump said that America has more presence in this area. America does the most activity in this area, hence this place belongs to America. Trump said that the renaming of Gulf will be announced at some date very soon.
However, Trump did not say how he would change the name of the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico is often called America’s ‘Third Coast’, because it is adjacent to 5 US states.

How did the Gulf of Mexico get its name? The Gulf of Mexico has been known by this name for more than 400 years. It is believed that this name was taken from the American city ‘Mexico’. However, this is not the first time that there has been discussion of changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico.
In 2012, a Mississippi representative proposed a bill to rename parts of the Gulf of Mexico as the ‘Gulf of America’. That bill was later referred to a committee and failed to pass.
