New Delhi. The Indian women’s team had to face defeat from New Zealand in its first match of the ICC T20 World Cup. This match got mired in controversies due to the umpire’s decision and the debate by the Indian captain. The Indian captain appeared angry at the Dubai International Stadium and got into a scuffle with the umpires. Controversy arose over the run out of New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr during the first innings. The umpire did not consider this run out after being given a dead ball. We will explain to you what the dead ball law says.
Something happened in the last ball of the 14th over of New Zealand’s innings which created controversy. On the last ball of the over, Amelia punched Deepti Sharma’s length delivery towards long-off and took a run. Harmanpreet caught the ball comfortably near the boundary and was slowly moving forward with it. Then he saw that the New Zealand batsman was running to take the second run and threw the ball straight towards wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh. Without making any mistake he took the ball and took wickets. The New Zealand batsman was going towards the dugout when the third umpire stopped her. The whole controversy is about what happened next.
Who is at fault there?
1. Harmanpreet Kaur- Poor game awareness
2. Umpairs – What have you done? Its clear run-out. Ball was not deadICC Where are you? This should not be the standard of umpiring in a T20 World Cup. Poor…#INDvNZ #HarmanpreetKaur pic.twitter.com/g3Q1j0n8qL
