Earthquake Today: The European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said that an earthquake of 5.5 magnitude occurred in Ethiopia on Friday. EMSC reported that the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 mi). Earlier in the day, Anadolu Ajansi reported a volcanic eruption at Ethiopia’s central Mount Dofan. According to local media reports, frequent small tremors have been felt in this area recently.
These continuous aftershocks have increased the concern about a possible major disaster. Particularly in the Awash Fantale area, which is about 142 miles (230 kilometers) from Addis Ababa. In recent weeks, more than a dozen small earthquakes have occurred in the region. Due to this, residents are worried about this issue.

Regional administrator Abdu Ali said authorities were trying to prevent casualties by relocating at-risk residents to safer areas, the state-owned Fana Broadcasting Corporation reported. Ali said that earthquake tremors are continuing and becoming more powerful. The most recent tremors were felt in Addis Ababa overnight.
