Christmas Celebrations: Christmas is celebrated all over the world as a celebration of the birthday of Jesus Christ. But the matter is different in Japan. In Japan, Christmas is, in a way, the second Valentine’s Day. Here on this day, couples, young boys and girls have a lot of fun with full enthusiasm. Why is this so and since when, let us know interesting things related to Japanese Christmas…

Shinto is the most widely followed religion in Japan, a country with a population of 124 million. The population of those who believe in this is 80 percent of the country. And there are less than 1 percent followers of Christianity. Still this country celebrates Christmas with full enthusiasm. According to CNN’s report, Japanese people do not see Christmas as a religious event but rather as a pop-cultural event from the West with glitter, lights and Santa Claus.

Why is Christmas like this in Japan?
Christianity arrived in Japan somewhere in the mid-16th century but was largely suppressed for two and a half centuries during the Tokugawa era. This was the era of Japan’s strict social system and isolationist policies. Then, after World War II, American culture began to spread to Japan and along with it came Christmas. But here it slowly took shape in a different style.

During the winter holidays in Japan, Christmas couples enjoy everything from hotel booking to fine dining. It is full of restaurants and shopping centres. In expensive hotels, the price of a room on this occasion can be up to $2,000 per night and the booking is almost full. In Japan, young people live with their parents until they get married. In such a situation, Christmas brings a good and big change.

It would be better for the Japanese government to have such a couple’s day…
By the way, it is good for the Japanese government to have Christmas as a couple festival because the marriage and birth rates are low here. Last year, a record decline in the fertility rate was seen in Japan. It had fallen to 1.20 percent. This is much less than the 2.1 percent required to maintain a certain level of population in a country.
