Congress leader Shashi Tharoor got angry over Sanju Samson not being named in the team.
New Delhi. The 15-member Indian team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was announced on Saturday (January 18). Rohit Sharma will be seen captaining the team while Shubman Gill has been made the vice-captain. Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul will be seen playing the role of wicketkeeper in the tournament for India. There was news of Sanju Samson also being selected in the Champions Trophy team but it did not happen.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor got angry over Sanju Samson’s name not being in the team. Tharoor has held Kerala Cricket Association responsible for this. Sanju Samson was having a dispute with KCA. Actually, Sanju was not available in the practice camp for the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Due to this he was not selected in the Kerala team.
Shashi Tharoor wrote his anger on social media ‘x’ “Sad story of Kerala Cricket Association and Sanju Samson. The player had expressed his inability to participate in the practice camp between Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, for which a letter had already been written to KCA. But he was immediately dropped from the team. As a result, Sanju has now been dropped from the Indian team.
Shashi Tharoor further wrote, ”A batsman whose best score in Vijay Hazare Trophy is 212*, whose average in ODI matches for India is 56.66. His career is being ruined because of the arrogance of cricket administrators. Doesn’t it bother the KCA owners that by keeping Sanju out, they ensured that Kerala did not even reach the quarter-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy? Where did they reach by throwing him out?
