Tata Sons has a major stake in Tejas Networks. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) -led consortium also includes Tejas Networks installing about one million 4G sites for BSNL. In November last year, BSNL gave a tender for the 5G network. The company plans to launch 5G network using 900 MHz low-band and 3.5 GHz mid-band spectrum. The company has increased the speed of its 4G network launch. About 65,000 4G sites of BSNL have been activated. The company has used technology made in the country for this network. BSNL has a target to reach one lakh 4G sites by the middle of this year.
Recently, the company’s chairman, Robert J Ravi, stated that it is also important to ensure the completion of minimum quality of services (QOS) parameters after installing 4G sites. For this, the company has deployed a team in each circle. BSNL has used 700 MHz spectrum for 4G network. This will provide better experience to customers. The company plans to launch 5G networks soon. Testing is being done for this. BSNL plans to launch 5G service after installing one lakh 4G sites.
However, 5G network of big private telecom companies like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio is present in a large part of the country. In this sense, BSNL is far behind these companies. The company has reported that it will start ESIM service by March this year. After this, the 4G network will be made available across the country by June. The company does not have a plan to increase the tariff soon. Last year, BSNL launched the first fiber-based intranet service in select areas of the country. The company’s fiber-to—-house (FTTH) network will be used for this service.
