Kiev: Russian President Putin has suffered a major setback in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. This shock is such that it is sure to be discussed from Ukraine to North Korea. Ukrainian President Zelensky has said that two North Korean soldiers were captured during an operation in the Kursk region of Russia. This is the first time that Ukrainian soldiers have captured North Korean soldiers alive. “Our troops have captured North Korean military personnel in the Kursk region,” Zelensky said in a post on Twitter on Saturday. Two soldiers, who were injured, survived and were taken to Kiev, where they are now in talks with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). Photos of the injured soldiers were released along with the statement.
Ukraine and Western countries estimate that about 11,000 North Korean soldiers are deployed in the Kursk area. This is the same area whose area of hundreds of square kilometers is occupied. Last week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said more than 1,000 North Korean soldiers were killed or wounded at Kursk in the last week of December. Zelensky said, ‘Capturing these two North Korean soldiers was not an easy task. Russian and North Korean soldiers usually kill their wounded soldiers, so that there is no evidence of North Korean involvement.’
What condition are North Korean soldiers in?
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) shared a video, in which both the captured soldiers can be seen. In the video, an SBU spokesperson said that one of these soldiers was captured by Ukrainian special forces on January 9, while the other was captured by Ukrainian paratroopers. SBU says that these soldiers have been kept in proper conditions as per international law. In the pictures released by Zelensky, it can be seen that soldiers are sitting on their beds in a cell. A soldier has a wound in his jaw. The other soldier has a fracture in his leg. SBU spokesperson said that talks are being conducted through translators with the cooperation of South Korean intelligence agency.
North Korean soldiers were deceived
The SBU said in a statement that one of the captured soldiers had no documents. While the other had a Russian military ID card in the name of a person from Tuva, a Russian region bordering Mongolia. According to SBU’s claim, these soldiers had no idea that they were going to fight against Ukraine. One soldier claimed that he was told that they were going for military training. It is clear from this claim that North Korea’s dictator and Russia deceived them. After Ukraine’s claim, there may be a stir from Russia to North Korea. Both soldiers are being treated by Ukraine.
