BCCI will not get a new secretary soon, the name to replace Jay Shah is not even discussed yet.

New Delhi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not going to get a new secretary any time soon. The Apex Council of BCCI will discuss many issues related to the functioning of the board on Wednesday. Among these issues, appointment of a new secretary in place of outgoing secretary Jay Shah is not included in the agenda. This will be the last meeting of the Apex Council before the 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board to be held in Bengaluru.

After the unanimous election of Jay Shah as ICC Chairman, the appointment of a new secretary has become necessary. However, Jay Shah will continue in his current role as BCCI Secretary during the upcoming AGM. He has to assume his new post in ICC from December 1.

Leave aside the name of the new secretary, discussion on the process of his nomination is also on the agenda of the Apex Council. The issues to be discussed include the Byju controversy. BCCI has a payment settlement dispute with its former title sponsor Byju’s. This edtech firm had terminated its contract with BCCI in March last year.

Byju Company had signed the jersey sponsorship contract for three years in March 2019. It was later extended for another year for a reported amount of $55 million. Paid till September 2022. The dispute is regarding payment of dues from October 2022 to March 2023.

The inauguration of the state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy (NCA) on the outskirts of Bengaluru will also be discussed. Currently the NCA functions at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium complex since its inception more than two decades ago.
