Waqar-e-Zaman is in the army for 39 years Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-e-Zaman has been in Bangladesh army for the last 39 years. According to media reports, Begum Sarahanaj Kamalika Rahman Sheikh, wife of the Bangladesh Army Chief, is the daughter of Mustafizur Rahman, uncle. Mustafizur Rahman has taken over the army reins from 1997 to 2000. Sheikh Hasina was also the Prime Minister of Bangladesh during this period.

Two months after this Protest, on August 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister and left Bangladesh and moved to India. After this, the army took over the command of the country.
